Abstract

This scientific paper discusses the emotional dynamics, communication methods, and strategies used by students who are participating in community service programs (KKN) while maintaining long-distance relationships. The study aims to understand the experiences and difficulties faced by students during KKN, especially how they manage interpersonal communication to sustain relationships despite physical distance and differing schedules. It employs a qualitative method with a narrative study approach. The researcher collected data through structured in-depth interviews with three students who were undergoing KKN and had long-distance relationships, supplemented by observations and personal documents. The results reveal that students experience various complex emotions—such as longing, sadness, anxiety, and frustration—primarily due to disrupted communication routines, heavy KKN workloads, and limited time. Their communication patterns shifted from emotional to more functional, relying on digital media such as WhatsApp for text messages and video calls. The main strategies for maintaining relationships include honesty, regular communication, conflict resolution, commitment, and mutual understanding. The study concludes that successful long-distance relationships during KKN require flexible communication skills, effective emotional management, and a willingness to accommodate one's partner's limitations. It provides additional insights into interpersonal communication in specific contexts and underscores the importance of flexibility and emotional intelligence in sustaining relationships under pressure.
