Neuro-Linguistic
Programming (NLP) is a part of applied science, a combination of Linguistics
and Psychological Sciences which has been frequently used in various domains
since 1970. Its effectiveness in responding to various situations can be seen
in the scope of companies, businesses, campuses, education, marketing,
health, personal life, and even the improvement of spiritual life. NLP is a
powerful and useful methodology that helps us communicate effectively and get
the desired results. In this research, NLP technique observations were
carried out on the multiculturalism activities of Pandita/Hindu Religious
Leaders in Bali. Hindu priests in Bali give religious lectures, cultural
seminars, and religious and cultural rituals not only in Balinese and
Indonesian but also in English. Multiculturalism activities are also carried
out by various ethnic groups, religions, and citizens of the world. There are
three NLP patterns used by Hindu Pandita in Bali in their multiculturalism
activities: Deletion, Generalization, and Distortion. Frequently, the
Deletion and Distortion techniques are most widely used. These techniques can
provide benefits such as communication becoming more effective and flexible,
the speaker becoming more charismatic, and listeners being curious about what
kind of thoughts/views they have and having further curiosity. |

INTRODUCTION
Neuro-Linguistic
Programming (NLP) has been used in language teaching methods for much longer
than we realize. Since NLP's introduction two decades ago, educators and
lecturers have used it to combine community language learning, music, drama,
and body language into their pedagogical approaches. NLP is based on the
principles of neurology and psychology and focuses on the brain's functioning
and how it may be trained to function better. Naturally, this concerns
left/proper brain function, multiple intelligences,
visual/auditory/kinaesthetic learning styles, and other research fields that
attempt to pinpoint specific learning modalities and highlight the significance
of individual learning. Learning to spot
patterns is at the heart of NLP.
NLP offers a model of
how we communicate with ourselves and others and is also concerned with process
rather than content. According to Bavister &
Vickers (2004:13), among many other things, NLP assists us in identifying our
goals and boosting our levels of comfort, confidence, and self-worth. The main
goals of NLP therapy are to improve self-communication, lessen irrational
concerns, and manage negative feelings and anxiety. In Putra (2012:37), John
Grinder claims that NLP is a fast-tracked educational approach for identifying
and taking advantage of patterns in the outside world. Additionally, NLP helps
people become more proficient communicators in spoken and nonverbal forms.
According to Bavister & Vickers (2004: 5), language is used to code,
organize, and assign meaning to our internal representations of the world (or
anything that exists outside of us) and to communicate them both internally and
externally. This includes all symbol systems, including body postures and
gestures. The Meta Model is one of the numerous NLP strategies that can improve
communication effectiveness.
We must learn and hone
the skills of this Meta Model because it will help us better understand people
and the issues underlying their behaviors and
attitudes, recognize the things that drive our coworkers and clients,
communicate intelligibly and clearly, and assist others in solving problems for
themselves. Meta Models are relevant to
our everyday lives and are also highly helpful in our professional lives,
particularly for those of us who work in education. Gaining a comprehensive
comprehension of the Meta Model can significantly improve our ability to
communicate with coworkers, students, and clients in training, the classroom,
and other settings.
This Meta Model can be
used both offline and online. It can assist us in inspiring our colleagues to
take the initiative and a sense of personal accountability, focus on finding
solutions rather than issues, and be charismatic and motivating team members.
We have more drive and vigor to complete our tasks
and are not constrained by ideas and deeds that restrict us; we are imaginative
and adaptable in how we think and interact with others and our surroundings.
A
Pandita/Hindu Religious Leader in Bali is essential in a Balinese person's
mental and spiritual development and personal journey. When a Pandita has the
title of Pandita by going through a series of ceremonies until Dwi Jati, a
Pandita must pay attention to his speech, acts, and behavior in everyday life.
They become role models, prominent figures who are respected, respected,
obeyed, and even followed. Until jargon is formed in society, Pandita Ratu's
words must always be followed and adhered to. In Bali, there are now more and
more opportunities for various castes to play the role of Pandita. With the
expansion of opportunities for anyone to hold this role, the quality of a
Pandita who becomes a Coachman/Spiritual Master becomes very important to pay attention
to.
This study examines the
strategy and implementation of the NLP Meta Model Technique by Ida Rsi Acharya Agni Budha Wisesanatha
and Ida Rsi Mahadewi Wisesanatha,
who are Pandita/Hindu Religious Leaders in Bali. The focus is on their diverse
multicultural activities. Naturally, we may bring the benefits of NLP to life
in both our personal and professional lives by witnessing, watching, copying,
doing, and even being able to teach beneficial things from the NLP strategies
utilized by Ida Rsi.
RESEARCH METHOD
NLP helps improve our
relationships, especially by improving communication. NLP techniques, such as
the Meta Model, can also help us identify the values and beliefs
that have been limiting us. Likewise, this research aims to further expand
people's knowledge and opportunities, especially in education,
self-empowerment, and spirituality, using language to motivate, encourage, and
empower.
The general aim of this
research is to determine the application and use of NLP techniques carried out
by Ida Rsi Acharya Agni Budha Wisesanatha
and Ida Rsi Mahadewi Wisesanatha
on several videos recorded of his multiculturalism activities from 2018 to
2024. Not only video recordings but also research was carried out using live
recordings of his activities in May 2024. The research results of this NLP
technique can also be applied to personal life. Namely, it allows us to pay
deeper attention to what people say, to whatever is in their heads that they
may not even be aware of, to things that have not been expressed verbally.
In this research, the
population is the multiculturalism activities of Ida Rsi
Acharya Agni Budha Wisesanatha, a Pandita/Hindu
Religious Leader in Bali from 2018 to 2024. Named Walaka Ir.Made Suryawan. MM, CHSP, CHA, he was born in
Denpasar 6 September 1962. As well as Ida Rsi
Mahadewi Wisesanatha, Pandita Istri
of Ida Rsi Acharya Agni Budha Wisesanatha.
Ida Rsi
Wisesanatha is one of the founding fathers of Gema
Peace. Before having the title Ida Rsi, he was an
alma mater of the Udayana Faculty of Agriculture Class of 1981. He continued
his career in the tourism sector by serving as Assistant Executive Manager of
Hilton Bali for 1 decade, from 1990 to 2000. He also served as General Manager
of Santika Premiere Beach Hotel for 5 years, from 2000 to 2005. Seeing his
background, it is very appropriate to use him as a research data source. Apart
from his role as a Hindu priest in Bali who is, of course, respected
religiously and culturally, he also has various experiences in tourism,
hospitality, and public speaking. This supports the researcher's aim of
providing teaching materials for these two courses.
Six videos of his
multiculturalism activities were obtained and downloaded from the YouTube
channel and four videos recorded live in 2024. The researcher used the
observation method to meet the need for complete and reliable data in preparing
this paper. Researchers used this method to collect data on six videos of Ida Rsi's multiculturalism activities from 2018 to 2023. In
addition to the observation method using downloading and recording techniques,
an observation method using video recording techniques of four Ida Rsi's multiculturalism activities, both Ida Rsi Wisesanatha and Ida Rsi Mahadewi Wisesanatha were
carried out in May 2024. Video recording was then continued with recording
techniques to present accurate and precise data results. These methods and
techniques are carried out with a crucial aim: to know the application of NLP
techniques, the differences in their delivery, and the benefits that can be
taken that can be applied to our daily lives and also in the professional and
spiritual fields.
The next stage is analyzing the data. Data was analyzed
using a qualitative approach. Downloaded and live-recorded videos of Ida Rsi Wisesanatha were observed and
analyzed using the NLP Meta Model technique theory.
The parts of the NLP Meta Model presented by Ida Rsi Wisesanatha are examined and checked. From all the NLP Meta
Model techniques carried out, it is reclassified to see in a detailed and precise
way the benefits that can be taken and even imitated in our communication,
hospitality, and even public speaking systems using communication theory in
NLP.
RESULT AND DISCUSSION
Six videos of Ida Rsi Wisesanathas
multiculturalism activities were obtained and downloaded from the YouTube
channel, along with four videos of activities that were recorded live in 2024
of both Ida Rsi Wisesanatha
and Ida Rsi Mahadewi.

2. Spiritual Multiculturalism Activity: GameChanging Guests: Ida Rsi Wisesanatha - A Spiritual
High Priest GameChanger on Bali
Description of video: In
this episode of the GameChangers United Podcast I'm
interviewing a very special guest: Ida Rsi Wisesanatha - a Spiritual High Priest GameChanger
on Bali who is changing the Game of Life by creating an international mission
of Life Management Coaches And I was on Bali with him
for 2 months, can you imagine! Ida Rsi is a high
priest on Bali. Actually, only for 5 year officially.
Although his journey started long before this (he was 20 when he started, he is
60 now). But before embodying this very specific lifestyle, he was the first
sales manager for Hilton in Indonesia.
His story is so
inspiring for everyone who feels like they have a strong calling in life. We
all try to live up to that purpose. He embodied it in a way that is really next
level. He and his family turned their lives around 5 years ago and started
living the life of high priests on Bali. We talk about his story (of course) as
well as the reason WHY he is so determined to do this. As we speak, he recently
started building an international community of Life Management Coaches, he is
about to publish his first book (Total Happiness Inside), he is the initiator
of Eco for Peace Movement on Bali and... he is my spiritual guide as well as a
collaboration partner for the Soul Business School we are about to launch. How
we ended up meeting each other and working together? Listen to this episode
full of Balinese wisdom and Dutch curiosity.

5. Spiritual Multiculturalism Activity: Sacred Water Blessing
Ritual In Bali
Description of video: In
this video, I share my experience trying a sacred water blessing ritual in Bali
with revered Priest Ida Rsi Wisesanatha
and Priestess Ida Rsi Mahadewi. This water
purification ritual is known as Melukat in Bali. In
Bali, Indonesia there is a deep reverence for the element of water. Here, water
isnt just a resource; its a sacred lifeline, with the power to purify, renew,
and shower blessings onto those who respect it. The worshipping of water flows
through every aspect of Balinese life, particularly in the profound water
purification rituals known as Melukat, which means to
cleanse or to purify.
In Bali, water blessing
ceremonies are more than tradition; they are a dance with the Divine, a
connection to the Gods & Goddesses of the land. These rituals, guided by
revered priests and priestesses are said to completely cleanse the mind, body
and soul, washing away the past and inviting renewal and blessings. The sacred
springs, rivers, and waterfalls of Bali often serve as the settings for these
powerful ceremonies, where the community gathers to honor
the life-giving force of water. In this video, we visit with revered Priest Ida
Rsi Wisesanatha and
Priestess Ida Rsi Mahadewi to experience a sacred
water purification ritual. The High Priest and Priestess share their form of
this water blessing ceremony from the Lineage of Shiva Buddha, also known as
Balinese Hunduism, which is a unique blend of
Hinduism, Buddhism, and indigenous Balinese traditions.

Sentences using Generalisation
Technique:
00.29 I believe everybody having your own unique style
in doing meditation
Ida Rsi Wisesanatha
used Generalisation Unversal
Quantifier to state this sentence. By doing this, he intended to connect with
every audience.
Sentences using Distortion Technique:
05.48 Only a specific and unique sensation which is
good for you
06.45 But the most important one is
07.19 I think you are quite sensitive
This distortion technique, as mind reading is part of
it, has the intention to claim the professionality of knowing what is becoming
the mind/ goal of the listener. Ida Rsi applied to part
of mind reading and lost the performative method in stating his sentence.
Sentences using Deletion Technique:
02.09 Feel the sensation of your blood
06.07 Spirit is very very
smart
09.35 God is there everywhere
10.03 And also seven dimensions
This deletion technique showed the deleted part of the
message. It didnt give the detail what kind of spirit, where is everywhere,
and what those dimensions are. This can be applied to arouse curiosity in the
listener and confidence that the speaker has abundant insight.

Sentences using Deletion Technique:
Our brain is one of our life tools.
Not just for the benefit of the
body.
Live with that completeness.
The most intelligent life, the most
holy life, the happy life.
The deletion technique reveals
certain omissions within the sentence. The meaning of kepentingan
badan is unclear. What is the definition of that word? There is currently no
comprehensive explanation available for the concept of hidup
yang maha cerdas, maha suci, dan berbahagia. This can pique the listener's curiosity and
create anticipation for certain outcomes resulting from activities being
conducted. Audiences are more captivated by the speaker's delivery.
Sentences using Distortion Technique:
If yesterday our life
It feels like being hit because we
don't understand it
Our heart is the centre of
our life, not our brain.
When employing this distortion
technique, the speaker utilizes the process of mind reading to comprehend the
events that transpired in the listener's life the day before. The speaker
employs the mind reading technique, allowing them to experience the sensation
of being ditabrak.
Sentences using Generalisation
Technique:
Life full of spiritual logic.
Segala sesuatunya ditentukan oleh
Tuhan.
Complete tool of our life.
By such generalization tactics, one
can effectively convey a sense of comprehension of the subject matter, appear
authoritative, and persuade the listener to agree with and accept the speaker's
propositions. These settings and circumstances are typical occurrences for
humanity as a whole.

04.49 will be understood more if we do understand the
concept of incarnation and reincarnation
05.09 you will never responsible to your life
05.32 you try to control ypur

Through this technique of
generalization, the speaker implies that the listener will encounter specific
circumstances as a result of performing an action. Additionally, under specific
circumstances, he commits an act that will destroy his existence in this world.
Demonstrate that the speaker has a comprehensive understanding of the situation
and the context by employing this technique.
Sentences using Distortion Technique:
04.23 I know that might be a little bit harder
06.15 Everybody will experience different things
11.36 Feel the energy coming down
The speaker's professionalism and
intellectuality are referenced in the sentences that employ the distortion
technique as they comprehend the listener's mind and the burden they perceive.
The speaker assumes the role of an authority figure who directs the recipient
to perform specific actions that are pertinent to their spiritual development.
Sentences using Deletion Technique:
02.30 Open your door to the Divine
5.55 After you really relax
09.50 Take all those unnecessity

Sentences using Generalisation
Technique:
In general, the purpose of the exhibition is to show
the world the way we live.
You never teach anything to a baby.
Generalization approaches can
facilitate comprehension of the presented context and topic, making it easier
for the listener to understand. By employing the concept of a baby analogy, the
speaker anticipates that the audience will grasp the qualities learned from the
infant. Using the term general is integral to making a generalization.
Sentences using Distortion Technique:
You know it, dont you?
The most important event today is the purification of
the water.
We cannot do it for everybody.
I do believe she is connected.
The Speaker employed mind reading upon
encountering the line you know it, don't you as it presupposes that the
listener has already comprehended the speaker's intended meaning. However, the
events that unfolded in the field were different from what was previously
mentioned. The phrase most important event employs the method of distortion
lost performative. Who perceives the event as significant and whether there is general
consensus regarding the event as the most important.
Sentences using Deletion Technique:
We have ethics.
We have mental structures
The spiritual mind, our spirit, loves to dance a lot.
The meaning of Ethics and Mental
Structures as intended by the speaker, was ambiguous and without any more
clarification in the statement. This aims to pique the listener's curiosity by
highlighting our conceptual framework and encouraging them to engage further
with the speaker's discussion on the provided topics.

Sentences using Distortion Technique:
Going down, down, down
Release, okay, release
I am with you
Its okay
The purpose of employing this
strategy is to achieve a specific objective and attain desired outcomes. In
this scenario, the individual who is listening or participating in water
purification intends to carry out the task as instructed by Ida Rsi Mahadewi. An external behavior
is equated to some internal state.
Sentences using Deletion Technique:
Those answers
Those things
We got your energy
I am holding your hand
The speaker's comment needed a
detailed explanation of the intended meanings of answers, things, and energy,
regardless of whether it is the left hand or the right hand. Within the given
environment, individuals will find it more manageable to comprehend and follow
instructions when their cognitive processes are distorted. Mind reading
technique also occurred when the speaker demonstrates the knowledge of the
answer and the intended things are meant to the participants.
Sentences using Generalisation
Technique:
Take all those things
Make sure you bring all those answers
Release all those unnecessary things
Speakers frequently employ the term
all to facilitate instruction in the field during water purification. It is
impossible to address each issue individually due to the numerous participants
and diverse concerns. This is as if the presenters and the participants had
reached a consensus that all of this was a condition of their problem.

Sentences using Distortion Technique:
The most important is your heart.
What we mean is how much you love yourself
Hopefully you dont need more than 40 minutes
You are carrying your past life issues.
Distortion aims to redefine the
cognitive processes within an individual. The speaker used the number 40
minutes as a marker to indicate that the participants would not require more
than this amount of time. Similarly, the
statement "You are carrying your past life issues" suggests that each
participant possesses unresolved problems from their previous lives that they
must address during the event.
Sentences using Generalisation
Technique:
If there is no karmaphala
then life is not just at all
Only through problem you become more creative
This sentence indicates the
modal operator of necessity. The presence of karmaphala
activity provides fairness in life, while the availability of the
modal operator of necessity techniques allows us to be creative by
overcoming a series of challenges. The purpose of generalization is to liberate
the constraints of the mind. By employing this line, the speaker may go deeper
into the thoughts and perspectives of the listener and the participant on the
event of water purification.
Sentences using Deletion Technique:
What you may have is the
internal gratitude on that
They will face the problem
More exercise or training required for that
The goal of clarification on the deletion
technique is to recover previously erased information. The speaker's
intended meaning of gratitude was ambiguous as they failed to provide specific
examples of the actions, timing, and locations in which it should be expressed.
Similarly, when it comes to problem and training, certain information is
omitted for the listener. In order to achieve a comprehensive and thorough
comprehension of the subject matter, it is necessary for us to engage in
further and intensive communication.

Sentences using Distortion Technique:
Relax, dont think anything
Open the door and exhale
Take the breath in
The purpose of implementing this
strategy is to accomplish a particular goal and obtain the intended results.
Ida Rsi Mahadewi consistently executed identical
phrases in each of her actions. She intended for the individual who is
listening or participating in water purification to carry out the task
specified by Ida Rsi Mahadewi.
Sentences using Deletion Technique:
Now you see clearly
You can see widely
Prepare your energy
The speaker's statement required a
comprehensive clarification of the intended meanings of see widely, see
clearly, and prepare energy. What are the essential requirements for achieving
a clear and expansive field of vision? Where is the location where we need to
observe it? What type of energy do we need to prepare for the situation?
Individuals in a specific context will find it easier to understand and follow
instructions when their cognitive processes are altered.
Sentences using Generalisation
Technique:
You take all those uncertain
things
Seven doors all open
Okay, all doors are open
Speakers frequently employ the term
all to facilitate instruction in the field during water purification. It is
useful to address all the participants' contexts to create results, resulting
in no choice that all have to join in and integrate together in the process.
CONCLUSION
Upon analyzing
Ida Rsi Acharya Agni Budha Wisesanatha
and Ida Rsi Mahadewi Wisesanathas
speech technique and style, it is evident that both Balis Pandita possess many
qualities. Examining the NLP technique can benefit both the speaker and the
listener. For the speaker, it can evoke a strong sense of curiosity in the
audience and efficiently cover a wide range of discussion topics. It might
offer the listener a more profound and comprehensive understanding of the content
compared to what the speaker communicates in their voice. By analyzing different sentences and statements using the NLP
approach, we can determine an individual's world model scheme, the
circumstances leading up to their current state of affairs, and their responses
and behaviors. This linguistic art encourages us to
explore further how language influences our cognition and actions.
The NLP approaches that
are frequently used include Deletion and Distortion techniques. Intentionally
removing certain elements inside words or information in a sentence can evoke a
sense of intrigue and fascination that intensifies within the recipient. This
strategy can be employed to captivate our audience. Nevertheless, if not
practiced adequately, this deletion approach can lead to misinterpretations due
to the omission of crucial information, resulting in communication gaps between
the speaker and the listener.
In addition, the two
Balis Pandita extensively utilize Distortion tactics in their multicultural
activities. Effectual distortion, and mind reading can yield a professional
impact, indicating that the speaker possesses extensive information and a
wide-ranging knowledge base. Nonetheless, if distortion is executed
unprofessionally and outside the appropriate context, it can lead to adverse
consequences, such as the listener receiving insufficient information and
undisclosed prejudices.
Hence, in order to
implement meta-models utilizing sophisticated NLP techniques, it is crucial to
establish and sustain a harmonious connection with the recipient, a task
effectively accomplished by both Ida Rsis in their
role as religious authorities. Intonation is essential to avoid conveying the
notion that assumptions are being concealed due to the usage of
generalizations. Clarity in talks is crucial to prevent misconceptions. It is essential
to refine terms to prevent any offensive implications in communication. By
closely observing Ida Rsi's participation in diverse
intercultural activities and utilizing NLP approaches, we can gain valuable
insights into effective communication strategies. The ultimate outcomes
achieved will be more suitable and fitting for the intended objective.
